Scoring Criteria

Candidates are evaluated on a 4-point scale based on alignment to MADVoters’ Core Values. We utilize publicly available information, including their campaign platform, endorsements, social media, and voting record (if applicable) to determine the scores. Scores are subject to change based on new information. Scores are not an endorsement of any candidate or campaign.

4 (A): Excellent alignment. A strong and vocal advocate.

3 (B): Good alignment. A solid advocate.

2 (C): Inconsistent alignment. Some similarities, but notable differences.

1 (D): Low alignment. Expresses significant opposition.

0 (F): No alignment. Strong opposition.

X: Not enough information to accurately evaluate

Three policy planks make up each Core Value. Each policy plank is scored, and the average score makes up the Core Value score. Those scores are averaged together for the candidate’s overall score.  â€‹

Statehouse candidates are eligible for consideration as a "MADVoters Verified Politician" (MVP). This designation provides Indiana voters with a clear, reliable, and vetted list of Statehouse candidates who demonstrably align with progressive policy goals and who have a proven commitment to community engagement, accountability, and transparency. â€‹
